Lately, I was pretty excited about using AI agents and I was feeling FOMO thus I decided to give them a try.
At first, I tried an AI agent called OpenClaw — an AI agent that used to be on the news because of its popularity. That one day, I saw this event in China that was held to introduce people OpenClaw [news 1] [news 2]. They were so excited to learn and adopt this new technology.
I’m pretty sure OpenClaw has made their life amazing if not helpful. >//<
Well, at least as far as I know… Not to mention that there was an evidence or maybe a “funny” story about how Meta’s Security Researcher got all her emails deleted because she gave her OpenClaw agent full access to her emails… I hope that no one has to deal with that going through.
I’m very picky when it comes to food, and fashion — and I think now I can say that I’m also picky at choosing my own AI agent stack. A lot has made me impressed though, from coding agents such as: pi, opencode, and Claude Code to general-purpose agents such as: OpenClaw and Hermes.
I’ve tried all the above that I mentioned, and I came to a conclusion that: “Do I really need all this superpowers?” Yeah, I called them superpowers because I’ve seen people leverage so many things to their agents and I’ve seen great work if not amazing automation tools that have made their life easier — or have they?
I found most of the people using agents are coders/software engineers. Some shared their story experimenting alongside them to create automations or lowkey hack others’ systems — which is personally something obviously I wouldn’t do, except the first. Thus, I lowkey need to define what are there the agents can help to make my life easier or to automate some repetitive work or to do something that I have less care about.
Enough of the nonsense, let us see how I setup my AI agent.
What agent do I personally use? Hermes is the agent that I’m currently using within my WSL2.
Why do I need an agent? I don’t really need it, but I want to have it so when someone ask me I’ll be responding with “I already have my agents” — even though I only have an agent installed and running.
Will this help me or make me go bankrupt? Well, a sword can be used to cut a meat or to poke a man. An agent and a sword will cut things unless they were never available — an agent can cut files and move it somewhere else in the filesystem xixixi.
I don’t want to subscribe for a VPS or a shared hosting to host my agent. In that case, I’m installing it locally to avoid data breach, mismanagement, and obviously to prevent myself for going bankrupt each month.

I use Windows 11 and WSL2 to install and run my agent, here’s the overview:
